Why Small Group Personal Training is Better Than 1-on-1 Training.

9 Months ago, I stopped all 1 to 1 personal training and I want to share why small group personal training might be the best choice for you. I'm not here to say 1 to 1 training is dead. I do think for a small minority of people with specific injuries, conditions or even performance based goals, 1 to 1 training will always remain undefeated. But for the clientele I train, women of Milton Keynes who just want to look good, feel good and finally find confidence and consistency, going small group based has brought a whole new level to their health and fitness.

Let’s talk about why it works so well.

The Benefits of Small Group Training

  1. Cost Effective I say cost effective because personal training still isn't cheap. It is an investment. But we all want value for our money right? While I was doing 1 to 1 training, most of my clients I would only see once a week. For them to come see me a second time it was either out of their budget or I simply didn't have space in my diary. But now being able to train 4 of my clients at the same time, I am to reduce the cost per session which allows them to see me multiple times each week.

  2. High Quality Now you'll see I didn't say 'I was I did this sooner' in the intro which is I don't. Ofcourse I wish I was able to offer this higher level service to my clients but I wouldn't have been equipped enough as a coach to coach them the best I could. I've gone hard to up-skill specifically around small-group training the last 20 months while still stacking years on years of coaching experience. I am now in a position to truly personalise based on various reasons for each of my clients. It kills me when I see other personal trainers trying to chase the big bucks but completely missing the 'persona' part of small group personal training. I truly believe at HQ you'll receive are more personable session that most 1 to 1 coaches in the area.

  3. It Keeps You Accountable In a group, people notice if you miss a session. Knowing others are counting on you makes it harder to skip workouts. You’re not just letting yourself down—you’re part of a team, and that helps you stay consistent on the days you don't want to.

  4. It’s Never Boring Training sessions are packed with variety. From strength training to cardio, you’ll always be trying new things. That keeps you interested and excited to come back. 1-on-1 training can sometimes feel repetitive while talking about the same stories with the trainer.

  5. Frequency and Flexibility I've already mentioned how now the weekly frequency of sessions is higher while has only x5 the rate of my clients progress but they now have full flexibility as to when they can train. A full timetable with an app to book and cancel sessions to allow them to navigate training around their busy lives.

Worries About Small Group Training

Let’s look at some common questions:

  1. “Will I Get Enough Help?” I scored at 5/5 starts in our end of year review from members as to whether they feel supported or not. So yes, you will! Groups are 4 people small so I can give everyone personal advice. I’ll check your form and make sure you’re doing exercises safely and effectively.

  2. “What If I’m Not as Fit as Others?” Don’t worry! Group training isn’t a competition. Everyone works at their own pace, and the group cheers each other on. My sessions are supportive, not stressful. I have women from ages 24 to 59 with the goals to looking good, feeling good through to tackling fitness competitions such as Hyrox.

  3. “Will It Work for My Goals?” Yes, it will. At HQ we specialise in helping women develop strength. Which is the foundation to any goal. I design sessions to suit different goals, whether you want to lose weight, build strength, or just feel fitter. We’ll make sure the sessions match what you want to achieve.

Why I Recommend Small Group Training

Small group training is a perfect balance. You get expert coaching, the energy of a group, and the accountability to keep going. Plus, it costs less than 1-on-1 training, so it’s easier to stick with it long-term. Emphasis on the long-term. Training should never be a quick fix but a key pillar in your lifestyle. So if you are still reading this, and you're a woman in Milton Keynes who is feeling lack of confidence, unsure what to do, where to go in a gym. Then drop me a DM (@CharlieJonesPT) and I can show you why I am leading the way in Milton Keynes for women who want to unlock their strength.
